Big Bend NP

Around the Bend …The magical place

Big Bend National Park…There is something magical about this place. Not sure exactly where is that feeling coming from, perhaps just the peacefulness of the desert but it’s definitely there.

I have been to Big Bend quite a few times and always enjoyed it a lot. This trip started late February 2020 from Austin as part of a rally organized by the Texas Adventure Rider Association. The plan was to head west early morning so we could get to BB by late afternoon for a social event with all of the other riders.

There was three riders in our group, my son Arthur with his friend Jojo and myself. The day before leaving we loaded the trailer with the AfricaTwin and the KTM, the third motorcycle was loaded in the back of the truck.

Loaded and strapped

We arrived in BB by four in the afternoon. We’ve been quite lucky to get there that early because we almost ran out of gas on our way to Fort Stockton. What saved us was the Rotopax I always carry on the bike. This one gallon extra fuel was just enough to get to the closest gas station.

We rented a pretty cool airbnb about 5 miles from Terlingua in a very secluded area.

Somewhere on the Old Ore trail

As usual you better be ready to fix few things…here the left pedal broke, the jury rig was too weak to stand on the bike anymore, not ideal!
On the right picture it’s the exhaust bracket that broke.

A bit tired after the ride
